Season of Ice
Gil spoke of the season of ice
So very long ago
One would hope
That change had eventually come
Yet lessons had not been learned
Or perhaps they knew
Yet choose to ignore
Create a diversion
Or better yet
A new narrative
Lie until its truth
And the deplorables
Will come in numbers
And chant his repugnant lore
Laugh in the face of
Ignorance
The new rule
While cancer finds
New homes to inhabit
Slava said
It would not matter
For us as we
Are old and forgettable
Yet the children
And their children
Will Bear the burden
Of our mistakes
And apathy
Yet he still endorsed
That reptilian regime
Knowing full well
His children’s suffering
Made no sense
Let history
Sort it out
Proclaim the villains and victims
Unless it’s too late
Let cancer do its work
It’s time to sleep
